Assessment of the outcomes of open side-to-side choledochoduodenostomy in the management of choledocholithiasis

Background: Gallstone disease is one of the most common digestive diseases leading to frequent hospital visits and its prevalence shows ethnic variability, with rates approximately 10-15% in United States Europe. The present study aims prospectively assess outcomes open side-to-side choledochoduodenostomy management choledocholithiasis. Methods: This hospital-based prospective observational was conducted Department Surgery, Tezpur medical College Hospital, Tezpur, over year period, from July 2021 June 2022. includes twenty-four patients admitted surgery department for bile duct stone operations. After intraoperative confirmation criteria, these underwent choledochoduodenostomy. were followed 2 months postoperatively after discharge. Results: Only a few had immediate postoperative complications which managed conservatively. No patient any evidence retained stone, nor did they have symptoms cholangitis, features suggestive development Sump syndrome, or other follow-up complications. Conclusion: Open should be considered method choice remote areas where endoscopic facilities are lacking cost factor deciding procedure, reduced like stones shorter duration stay expert surgical hands.
